Feed the Hungry

Join Our Lady in Feeding Her Children This Lent.

Now that Lent is upon us, you may be considering making a few more charitable donations as part of your Lenten sacrifices. However small or large your finances are, it is a very good thing to take a step back and to review your spending during Lent.

For myself, I want to try and reflect on the simple things that I take a little pleasure in, such as a coffee here and there (maybe even a cake!!!) and try to give myself a nudge into redirecting that treat financially somehow towards someone else. Sometimes Lent can seem a little overwhelming, we may feel a bit tired about looking for something to give up other than chocolate, sugar or alcohol, not to mention focusing too much on the potential flip side of some welcome weight loss at the end. (More room for those Easter Sunday chocolate bunnies!)

‘And over all these put on love, that is, the bond of perfection.’ (Col 3:14)

I’m going to try and smile more at people, open more doors and generally be more patient (I say try). But I suppose the point is that whatever we choose to do, at the heart of our motivation should be love rather than obligation. Place yourself in the Sacred Heart of Jesus and offer the smallest of things to Him so it becomes transformative, and then please God we will please God and our hearts will become more united with His. We might also warm the hearts of those we come into contact with who may just need a smile to transform their day. Of course we can only do this in the power of the Holy Spirit who is a wonderful encourager and 100% on our side. Some of us are more naturally smiley than others!!

You may also wish to consider supporting a charity this Lent. Mary’s Meals is one which is very close to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart. Some 93 pence out of every £1 goes on their charitable activities which I think is quite amazing!

I wish you a holy, joyful, reflective and prayerful Lent and I’m giving you a big smile, honest!

Simple actions can change hearts!

‘The aims of Mary’s Meals

The charity’s constitution sets out the focus of our charitable activities as:

  • To provide a daily meal, in a place of education, for children in the world’s poorest communities.
  • To provide relief for those suffering, in any part of the world, as a result of humanitarian crises or poverty; to help people escape poverty; and to provide care for orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children.
  • To raise awareness in the UK and worldwide of poverty issues through education.

We are dedicated to our commitment to spend at least 93% of all funds received on these charitable activities.’

Love Has A Name

Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Ps 37:4

For me today these words take on a new significance. For many years I have strummed away on my guitar and keyboard, writing down the words and music that come to me in various ways. Trying to express what my heart feels through music and lyrics. I’m not trained professionally so it’s a rather amateurish affair, but an affair of the heart it is and the mind, body and soul for that matter.

For we are all created in the image and likeness of God. And we have the endless possibility of expressing something which is truly unique and will never be repeated in time or eternity by anyone else. Whether it be something as mundane as preparing a meal, sweeping the floor, changing a nappy, or doing our job of work. Or as profound as giving birth to a new life, operating on someone, hearing a confession, or giving the Sacrament of the sick. Every action is of value because we are joined to Him who is Love and who has a name. Jesus Christ. So everything we do is glorified and taken up into the Divine life of the Trinity.

How blessed we are!

Today I am ‘launching’ my new cd. This is one of the desires of my heart, which I hope is joined to the desire of the Saviour’s heart and indeed your hearts, as we are all in this together. I bless God because He blesses me in ways I would not have imagined. Maybe not how I would have chosen, but I hope  I am all the better for it.

My prayer is that this music would in some way touch your heart, or move you to prayer, or inspire you to turn your face to the King. In fact anything that would move you in His direction would be all that I could hope. For He is our source and our destination and please God we will all arrive in Him, through Him and with Him and sing a few songs together when we get there!

God bless you,
